The Mentoring Circle had the glorious opportunity to be cordially invited to the South-East Asia Private Equity Conference, hosted by Private Equity Insight.
The 2018 conference provided vast insights into the private equity scene in South-East Asia. As S.E.A is a hot alternative investment market, it was enriching to listen to so many experienced and seasoned experts’ opinions on the current and future trends of private equity in S.E.A.
TMC Mentor Jio Chan commented: “One really interesting talk was on potential exits by PE firms, and Mr Eugene Lai from Southern Capital Group spoke about the complexities and unorthodox ways PE companies have used to exit in response to changing political and business conditions. The talks gave us practical perspectives on private equity that cannot be found in any textbooks out there!”.
TMC Mentee Madhusudan Murali further mentioned that ” there are many things I would never know of unless I actually heard some of these panelists speak- both regarding opportunities and problems in their industry. Gets me thinking about how I can position myself for the next big economic opportunity. It’s also a great reminder to be humble because you actually realize exactly how much you don’t know and that it’s all a journey!”
Justin Chew, who just joined us as a Mentor this year and a current intern at TAEL Partners sang praises as well. “The conference was very well organized and had bought together some of the largest investors and fund managers in the region. As an undergraduate who is keen to explore more about private equity, being able to meet and interact with seasoned professionals in the field was an invaluable experience. There was representation from firms that deal with investments in varying industries and geographical sectors and being able to gain insights first-hand had helped to broaden my perspectives.”
Overall, it was an eye-opening experience attending the conference for many of us. We firmly believe that the knowledge gained and contacts made will definitely go a long way in our future career. With that, TMC is already looking forward to the conference next year!
